Do you hear with your ears or eyes?

While I do hear with my ears, the looks of a speaker definitely influence my thoughts. I'm not going to trust my ears if I think an affordable 2 way sounds better than a 3 way from the same line. I also find more often than not my ears prefer speakers with lumpy measurements...like the...

Master Thread: “Objectivism versus Subjectivism” debate and is there a middle ground?

If I hear a difference between amp A against amp B there's likely a qualified reason someone like bob Carver would understand that a music lover wouldn't, fair to say? Would recognizing that be a sort of middle ground? Hearing people from the engineering side say there's no specific measurement...

    MQA Update

I was excited for mqa and there were some 24/96-192 recordings that were audibly more open with an impressive soundstage. That said when tidal started replacing the redbook 16/44.1 music with mqa I got uncomfortable because Competition is good for the consumer and mqa, even for those who oppose...

State of the Art passive full-range speakers?

I went from A Hegel H360 to a H590 and for the last couple years a Mac Mc611. The lack of sensitivity is offset with more power as the move from the h590 to the mc611's made an easily notable difference in dynamic swing.

    Worst measuring loudspeaker?

Vienna Acoustics baby grand. I still have a pair of Beethovens circa 2001 and despite the funky measurements I can't find anything I prefer for what I could get for them.

Wilson Audio Speakers: Why do people like them?

For me the intrigue lies in the $20 k price range where speakers like perlisten S7t, Yamaha NS500, KEF ref 5 all hang out. Dynaudio Contour is an impressive line that many of us wouldn't be able to improve on in typical living environments anyhow. After listening to the salon 2 and then the...

Wilson Audio Speakers: Why do people like them?

I see the megabuck speakers as any other luxury product. Luxury products appeal to people that value differently than I do. In fact I'd be surprised if i listed my top 5 priorities in a loudspeaker pair if any of them would be on the luxury buyers list, let alone the order I placed them. That...

    Revel Salon 2 - $15 k 'last dance' sale

Bump, I'm tempted by the $15k pair of Salon 2's despite having a few pair I preferred to them while I owned them. I'm confident my current source has the 'torque' to drive the salon 2's to their rated specs and allow me to get closer to the intended sound. Loudspeaker marketing, especially...

For those of you that are around 50 YO and over - do you think about death?

I never made that connection, but while a mortgage has a finish line, taxes follow us foreverrrrr

Holographic depth soundstage and 3d impression 2025

Would you say there's only 1 model? the next best replacing the previous best? I could drop a speaker M & M and mention the song that made me think of it regarding image specificity, but one of the things I appreciate about this hobby is how different speakers kinda shuffle my set list by making...

    Revel F208 Tower Speaker Review

check out the used audio sites to find the going price. My experience with Revel speakers is one can never bring too much power to drive them! The F208 offer a large, 'live' type presentation more like the Salon 1 than the Salon 2 and likely will perform better in a larger room. Age of...

    Good sound , low volume?

my suggestion's likely useless, but my systems haven't had loudness controls for decades so when my system was located where it'd disturb family i'd just pull everything tighter, create a smaller triangle between the speakers and listening chair. Not as good as a loudness button, but the...
