I have a crappy UM2 interface that I'll be running them off so the DT 880 I'd be looking at would be the 250ohm not 600.

These will be used mostly for music, but also some gaming and movies. I'm looking for a fun, immersive experience not necessarily 'accurate', the HD 560s I tried were a bit too clinical for me.

Price is also playing a factor (though they are all similar prices I suppose).

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The Hifiman HE400se is $109 now, just throwing that out there :)
Where? I usually buy my stuff from Amazon because of the return policy, but I also live in the UK so a lot of deals that apply to the US might not apply here.

The cheapest I can see that isn't from AliExpress is £149, so about $194.

From all those listed, the TYGR might spot your itch the best, as it has a more bloomy upper bass than the 880 Ed., while maintaining the beyer signature. It's also easier to drive and comes with a mic.

Edit: The clinical nature of the 560s might come from the upper treble combined with the recessed bass. Before purchase, you could try EQing them to lessen the treble peak and giving them a bass shelf, if they are yours. Following up with the Beyer though, you can still EQ the treble peaks or, alternatively, use the toilet paper "mod" as coined per @solderdude .

If you still have the HD560s, you could also try using EQ to see if that already sufficiently patches the issue.
I don't, but I did try that and no dice. I'm actually looking at some refurbished DT 1990s now for £275 and DT 880s for £100. The 1990s are more than double the price of the 990s but I don't know, it seems like an endgame headphone for a lot of people.

Consider this 'solderdude modded' DT990Pro/250:

Bought it second hand as it had the connector missing.

Used the opportunity to mount a 4-pin mini XLR, fresh headband, black EDT990VB pads and mounted a filter inside while it was opened up anyway. Can be used on SE and Balanced amps now and replaceable cables.

The filter does a perfect job removing 'mount Beyer'. (horizontal line is tonally 'flat')

Lovely sounding... have put it up for sale (will ship to U.K. from E.U.)

Huh, interesting. I've actually tried the stock DT 990 pros before and liked them but I did have to EQ to remove that treble. That seems pretty damn cool I have to say, where would I buy it from if I may ask? Thanks by the way! ((Also, how would you say it compares to say, a DT 1990? I'm looking at a refurbished one for £275))

The DT1990 is better but also needs the treble removed (EQ or external filter).

This DT990 is sold from the Netherlands. Asking € 110.- (around £92.-) without shipping and including a 1.2m straight cable with 3.5 +6.3 adapter.

I have to ask if you think the DT 1990 is worth being essentially triple the price of the 990? I must say you might have tempted me to go with your custom 990...

To me it is, can't say if this is true for others as well.
My wife would have no preference for instance, not even from the kitchen.

The DT1990 basically is a nicer built DT880 + DT990 in one with replaceable cables.

If you want to listen loud sometimes, then older beyers distort a lot at high SPL. So DT 1990 or even DT 900 Pro X is better. My DT 700 Pro X can go ear blasting levels loud with little distortion. But for loudness you are probably limited by UM2 and 900 Pro X should be the most efficient out of all of them.

How much would delivery be from the Netherlands to the UK out of interest do you reckon?

Also, do you have an opinion on the TYGR 300rs? I'm currently testing them alongside the DT 990 pros and I really can't decide between them.
