I just got this amp after waiting a couple of years to ensure all the kinks and bugs that the OG PA5 had were worked out. It sounds awesome and surprisingly has sufficient power to act as a backup to my main amplifier, Yamaha A-S501. Obviously, the Yamaha gets louder, but the PA5 II (not plus)...
Hi Ralf, thanks for responding. I’ve measured another Yamaha receiver I own (htr-6063) and that one has the same “issue” except the voltage is 60mV DC, but lasts only 10 seconds after shutdown. It’s unlikely they both have defective capacitors.
I have a technical question for anyone that owns either the A-S701 or A-S501 and a multimeter - can you see any DC voltage present on RCA Inputs (not outputs) for a short period you turn off the amplifier? On my A-S501, RCA inputs show about 35mV of DC voltage right after the amp shutdown for...
Roland, I honestly did not mean to be confrontational. I just don't want to start a rumour about "this manufacturer's DACs get fried by Yamaha amps etc". I highly respect Yamaha and this other company as manufacturers and, like you say, it is HIGHLY unlikely that 30mV DC offset for a few seconds...
The DAC was not even connected to either of the Yamaha units (A-S501 and HTR-6063) when this DC offset was measured so it’s totally immaterial for the purpose of this conversation. Why do you think it is necessary information?
The reason why I mentioned the DAC in the first place is because I...
It could have been totally coincidental that the RCA output stage died on that DAC, so I’d rather not name the brand. Let’s put it this way, I’ve used three other DACs from the same manufacturer with my A-s501 in the past with no problems.
I’d still be interested in knowing why my Yamaha seems...
A technical question for someone that has one of these amps and a multimeter - do you see any DC voltage present on RCA inputs (not outputs) for a short period you turn off the amplifier? On my A-S501, and another older Yamaha AV receiver (HTR-6063), the RCA input shows 60mV of DC voltage right...
Just a quick update. After using these for a long while now in a near field setup toed out to be perpendicular to the front wall, I decided to go back to angling them slightly towards me. I have them at a very slight angle, between 10-15 degrees - the imaginary line where they intersect is way...
This is an interesting little device with a high pass filter. Has anyone measured whether engaging the high pass filter at any of its settings has an impact on SINAD?
@amirm, any input on this? It would be interesting to know if the HPF is purely analog or is the entire signal digitized before...
@solderdude , I really respect your opinion so I want to ask for an advice. I’ve always had class A/B speaker amps such as my current one, Yamaha A-S501, and I’m happy with it. On the other hand, I’ve always wanted to have a class D amp as a backup. Would you recommend the ZA3 for this purpose...
In my case, ground loop noise only exhibited itself when there were multiple paths to the ground between different devices that were interconnected. In other words, when two or more of these devices used three-pronged grounded electrical plugs. It made absolutely no difference whether they were...
If one does not have an actual ground loop, the benefits of USB isolators are marginal and inaudible. However, these little gems can be a life saver for people who do have actual ground loops where the benefits are very real and easily audible. A few years ago, I had a PC with a powerful graphic...
