On the cheaper side theres the SMSL ao300 and Wiim Amp. The AUDIOPHONICS DA-S250NC looks pretty similar (has pre-outs you could use for a sub).

Performs better than a minidsp 2x4 at least. Any other options to get dsp into your system for cheaper?

The PA5 II Plus looks like it has nearly identical performance and a compact form factor for an extra $75. The PA5 has significantly less power for roughly the same price.

I just need volume control and it would be perfect for this.
