Hi all,

This is a really basic question, and apologies, I'm sure it must have been asked before, though I couldn't find an answer.

Is it possible to connect an iPhone to a USB-B DAC using a single cable? I've seen Lightning to USB-B MIDI cables advertised - would one of these work?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Compatible...ocphy=1006502&hvtargid=pla-663680812500&psc=1

Or do I have to go the slightly clunky Apple camera adapter + separate cable route?

Many thanks in advance.

John Seaber at JDS Labs said this in a blog post:

“As with all iOS devices, there is no direct connection from Lightning to USB that supports digital audio. You must use Apple’s Lightning-to-USB adapter, which authorizes the iOS device to pass USB Audio.”

I've been using this cable with my iPad Pro running iPadOS 14.6 to pass bit-perfect digital audio from Apple Music to my RME ADI-2 DAC FS. Works just fine:

Granted, this is USB-C, not Lighting, and therein may lie the rub.
