DUAL CS 530 cartouche

Hello everyone,

I have a DUAL CS 530 vinyl turntable with an Ortofon Dual cartridge but I can't find out exactly which model of cartridge I have on my turntable. It says ortofon on the top of the cell and DUAL on the side but I don't know any more. I don't know if it's an MS or MC cell and if I need a photo preamp on my Marantx 7005. It currently works without a phono preamp but it seems like it requires a lot of power from my Marantz 7005 preamp....is this normal?

Any of the Ortofon OM styli will fit and work well. The Dual labelled styli were usually more expensive but basically the same as either the OM10 or OM 20 styli (I don't think they ever did an OM30 equivalent). The OM20 used to be an excellent upgrade for the ever popular 505 decks fitted with the OM cartridge, but it's very expensive now sadly, so I'd go with the OM10, which can liven up the subjectively softer tones of these more basic Duals.

N’importe quel stylet Ortofon OM s’adaptera et fonctionnera bien. Les stylets étiquetés Dual étaient généralement plus chers mais fondamentalement les mêmes que les stylets OM10 ou OM 20 (je ne pense pas qu'ils aient jamais fait d'équivalent OM30). L'OM20 était autrefois une excellente mise à niveau pour les platines 505 toujours populaires équipées de la cartouche OM, mais il est malheureusement très cher maintenant, alors j'opterais pour l'OM10, qui peut animer les tons subjectivement plus doux de ces Duals plus basiques.

Sorry, my French is appalling.

The Dual tonearm is NOT ideally suited for MC cartridges, so please don't even go there! The OM is what's broadly called an MM type.

If the Ortofon cartridge body is working properly, there is NO NEED to replace it. A straight Ortofon OM10 or 20 stylus is all this deck needs and it's unlikely the OM30 stylus would make for a huge difference on this turntable system* bearing in mind the extra cost.

The stylus in the CS530 is a DN165E which if memory serves, is an OM10 by any other name... The Dual original is still available however -

*The cartridge/stylus is only as good as the deck/arm it's fitted to and even with the more solid CS505-2 deck, the OM30 made little difference over the 20.

intéressant , ma cartouche fonctionne bien et mon stylet aussi mais je sais bien qu'un jour ou l'autre , je vais devoir changer le stylet d'où la raison de prévoir cet achat futur. Je vais devoir trouver ce DN 165E ici au canada ce qui devrait être assez facile j'imagine. Votre français est très bien
