Hello everyone. Forums use pre-built platforms and ours is no exception. The most common one is from a company called Vbulletin. Forums like AVS, Blu-ray, and WBF use Vbulletin ("VB" for short).

Alas, Vbulletin was acquired a few years ago and the core members left to form a new company called Xenforo. They took all the learning they had to create a platform that while similar in some respect, it is far more usable both for administrators and users. What used to be a chore in VB is now a delight. Want to clip some text and pictures from an external web site here? Just copy both from the browser window into your post and that's it! Yes, you need to be mindful of copyright laws and the forum is careful to use references to the pictures rather than copy them.

How about quoting someone? Just highlight the text and a new pop up shows up to create a new post with that part already quoted for you!

At the same time, all the old techniques still work. If you know how to use "bbcodes" such as img and quote tags, you can still do that here.

There is a lot more to it than this. Here is a good video to talks about it. BTW, to post this video I just copied the link from youtube. The software adds the tags to it. You don't need to do a thing other than putting in the link:

May be easier to watch that full screen. Hit the Youtube button which opens a new window in your browser. Then go to full screen there.

We use Xenforo for our product support forum. We left Vbulletin after the nightmare that was their last major upgrade.

Glad to be here. The Xenforo Spam Tools and Moderation Tools kill what I remember of VBulletin. It's IP block list feature is stellar also.

Thanks Bob. I just checked and there are no errors logged at our end. Next time it happens, copy the text and save it to notepad on your computer. Then post it here when you get access again.

Very kool new software. I worked with Simple Machines software for many years but this is lightyears beyond with all it's little ease of use tricks. Now if I can only remember half of them.

A Computer section?
One of the goals that I artificially set for the forum is to have very few forums. Most people arrive here either by google search which takes them directly to a thread, or by clicking New Posts. In neither case do they see the forum names, etc. And having a short home page is more friendly than one that is many pages long.

What I can do is make a catch all forum and these topics can do there.

Open to ideas.
