Clipping is lack of power from AVR. Solve problem with mains powered by pro amp.For 5-7 channel music listening when I’m just looking to play loud, the added headroom would be welcome I would think. After all, that’s where I’m clipping. Now, I could purchase the non-active X14’s for the same price, but why not add the extra headroom for free and potentially solve my clipping problem in the process?
So if stuck with the AVR alone for at least a yr [no external amp], would the Marantz 7012 and/or Yamaha 3070 be better than the 4500 for 2-channel music? All should be available for $999, with the 7012 and 4500 both coming with Auro already activated.Well as for Denon avr sound quality for hifi, about three people on other forums owners of 3600 and 4500 say they're lousy for hifi, and either getting or have a stereo interegrated amp for better 2ch.
Is this possibly bc the only Yamaha tested was the 1080 which is already full-channel amped and thus doesn’t have the accompanying amp-reassign capability that the 30xx has in order to unlock 11.2? *See Amir’s comment about the X3600:The Yamaha hasn’t been tested, so it may be as good as the Denon, but because other Yamaha’s have come up a little short I wouldn’t recommend it without actually seeing the results. The Denon is head and shoulders above the AVR’s tested so far. I have been bitten by ASR and I’m not buying anything until @amirm tests it.
At first I tested it in normal mode and it could only go up to 1.5 volt before the amp clipped and sunk the DAC performance with it. When I enabled the 11 channel mode and redirected the amp from left and right channel, that problem completely vanished.
Possible? Yes, but not probable. The Yamaha 1080 was not extremely impressive and I doubt the DAC/amp design/etc. is significantly different than the 3080 and it wouldn't sound any better. He specified that the 1080 was on the verge of shutting down, even though he wasn't playing multi-channel music. Yes the 3080 has more power, but your speakers aren't that easy to drive. Personally I'd stay away from the Yamaha for now.Is this possibly bc the only Yamaha tested was the 1080 which is already full-channel amped and thus doesn’t have the accompanying amp-reassign capability that the 30xx has in order to unlock 11.2? *See Amir’s comment about the X3600:
Where?the 6014 for $899.
It’s a special just for me. I bought a 6013 a couple months ago that crapped out inside 20 days of having it, but the refurb factories were closed, so there was no way of exchanging it for another one. Would a new 6014 at $899 be something I need to jump on?Where?
Typically $1500 new..Would a new 6014 at $899 be something I need to jump on?
Incidentally, the X3600 was released in July 2019, while the 6014 is actually 4 months newer [Nov 2019].Typically $1500 new..

PS - personally, the 6014 questions seem relevant to the 3600. Worth comparing, IMO. And here, ok with me. But whatever Moderators decide...
That in mind, what are the chances that the same attention paid to the 3600 [that provided it rave reviews] wasn’t paid to its 6014 brother?

If I bite on the 6014, I wouldn’t have a problem with drop-shipping it to Amir if he doesn’t keep it too long and if members here feel like covering the shipping to me. My budget is pretty restricted unfortunately.Need bench test of marantz to be sure..considering just how badly marantz 7705 and 8805 faired I would wait until marantz models are tested
Aren’t the 7705/8805 completely different animals though under the hood and in how they’re put together vs the 6014/3600?Need bench test of marantz to be sure..considering just how badly marantz 7705 and 8805 faired I would wait until marantz models are tested
As a general rule Amir covers shipping to you. So if you are ordering it and get free shipping, there would be no cost to you. And yes it would be really great info if you were able to get it sent to Amir for testing.Went with the brand new 6014 for $899. Hopefully it’s a virtual performance-clone of the 3600.
