It is just an opinion of course. I think good design will require deletion of meter.
Maybe have just a hidden red under-glow light to flash if amplifier is close-to clipping.
I have a similar attitude towards “tube” design.
There is enough energy being converted into heat with audio equipment already (amplifiers/speakers etc), and some feel the need to use tubes which convert even more energy into heat.
Then the tubes fail regularly and you have to find yourself replacing them, even if you remember to turn the amplifier off (which is recommended to extend tube life).
Sounds very old fashioned. . .
