Hello I'm a student at a German university and am doing a data science project. It is my task to analyze this forum. So I wrote a python script and downloaded every public post from your forum and made initial evaluations. Now I want to present my evaluations to you.
My first graph shows the number of new posts per month:
1609366163047.png

The second graph shows which members have created the most threads:
1609366229340.png

The next graph shows the members which have the most posts/ likes:
1609366329138.png

1609366422881.png

This graph shows the top 20 members who have the longest posts on average:
1609366629046.png

The members who have the most likes per posts:
1609368068018.png

And now the fun part begins ;). You can tell me your ideas for further evaluations and I will try to evaluate them.
However, I cannot evaluate everything because I have only downloaded certain information about the posts which are:
  • Thread number
  • Forum number
  • Post number
  • member
  • date
  • length of the written words
  • number of likes
  • the post number of the cited posts

With best regards
Your data scientist

P.S. I'm sorry for any misspellings

Perhaps you can have your own site whereby the bar charts could be drilled down further for example when clicking on the bars of likes per post would bring the user to that post.

@clel: what do you (or the university) intend to do with these data? Just curious...

Members carry certain titles like Forum Donor, Technical Expert, Industry Insider, Manufacturer and so on. Showing post/like data for these categories will be interesting as well.

Congratulations to the winners, I think? :)

How about (a) number of new posts for each of the seven days of the week, averaged over all weeks of 2019 and 2020, (b) top 20 members with the most new posts for each day of the week, also averaged over 2019 and 2020, (c) top 20 members with surplus of likes over posts (#likes - #posts), and (d) top 20 members for (number of likes) / (mean length of posts / 100)?

I find the likes/post possibly interesting, but all the top scorers have very few posts, i.e. they’re not really “active members”. They are mostly from the industry answering a specific issue, or a newbie saying “I like Amir/ASR”, and both get lots of likes.

I’d like to see likes/post for members with a minimum number of posts, e.g. 20 or 50.

... or some other way to define “active member”.

I was surprised to not see more likes for celebrity members as they tend to have multiple likes for anything they post.

Content-based analysis would be helpful as well. Top threads by posts and likes. And then comparing members with the most posts and likes in those specific threads to the general, full-forum trends.

Same there. Likes/post ratio for Major Contributor and so on. Would be also interesting to see the "score" by countries of origin (but many do not communicate their location).

@clel Congrats for your work, even if I would to know more about the exact purpose of it.

likes should be desactiavated in a forum which claims being cientific imo...and I am not saying this because my post/like rate is low af lol; I am saying this because in cience the popular opinion has zero relevance

Take it even further like textboards or imageboards and make everyone anonymous with identity as an option (tripcode) and shaming of people who take an identity without purpose as core culture.

Here's a tough one or more:

Track the 'character' change of the forum with time.

Quantify member turnover(departure/posting decline) with time.

How does individual member activity change as membership numbers increase.

How do initial forum aspirations change as membership numbers increase.

********* Copyright your findings and offer them to the highest bidder. o_O

P.S. If you need a challenge after this project, try a more subjective audio forum. Ask here and you will be overloaded with suggestions.

+1 totally agree
Much more useful analysis than who has the biggest one.
