It was hidden behind a box at the local record shop. Owner was hesitant to sell if for the listed price as it was priced 10 years ago based on his label and I had a 20% off coupon. I picked up a couple others while I was there to make us both feel good about it. Felt good picking up this, 2 other blue notes and a Tom Petty for $26

I posted this a while back in the "What are we listening to..." thread, but feel that it's appropriate to post if here as well because I believe Steph's music deserves more attention.

If you enjoy jazz standards mixed with some originals, and female jazz vocals, this is worth a listen. EXCELLENT recording IMO.

Listening to one of the finest renditions (IMHO!) of Body and Soul, played by Sadao Watanabe, on a 1974 Red Book CD...an amazingly good recording from 46 years ago...If you like the music, get yourself this CD. I beleive its been re issued as an SACD. Turn up the volume, the sax is "in your face and raw" and it gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it!

Here is the Dusty Groove review:
"One of the greatest records by Japanese sax genius Sadao Watanabe – recorded at Pit Inn in Tokyo, with an American rhythm trio of Cedar Walton on piano, Sam Jones on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums! The style is laidback and hard-blowing – very different than some of Watanabe's studio work from the time – simple, elegant, and with a keen focus on his rich talent as a soloist. Watanabe's tone is excellent – very edgey and dark – and it offsets the lyricism of Walton's leaping piano lines nicely – and the bonus of Jones and Higgins. Titles include "Softly As In A Morning Sunrise", "Oleo", "Blues For Amos", and "Body & Soul". © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc. "

Jeff Beck plays Mingus' Goodbye Pork Pie Hat:

The full DVD:

The 2xCD version puts the guest artists on the second disc. CD1 is pure Beck.

The 1xCD adds three of five guest artist tracks as extras.

Thats awesome! If youre a Jeff Beck fan take a look at this as well:
A contrast with the high energy Stratus with Vinnie Colaiuta in full flight , followed by the haunting Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers, with some serious bass by the really awesome 21 year old Tal Wilkenfeld ( A Sydney, Australia lass, I might add)...hear it to the end!
