Thanks martytoo!
A quick search on ebay reveals the Sony DVP-NS300 is exactly what I was looking for. Available from several sellers, priced below 20 bucks. So anyone who wants to research this issue (
@amirm ?) now can get such an error provoking player and check its SPDIF signal for irregularities that trigger the issue - without spending a fortune.
If there is no new information coming up in the next months I will do that too (because I am just curious. I have no urgent need to do so as our products are not affected). But as I am not with my AP analyzer right now this will have to wait.
You are right that for the final analysis one also needs a newer unit that uses the CS8416. Newer because based on what we know now As you say and might be the case must have changed the chip design or manufacturing process at some point, as the chip seemed to have worked flawlessly since 2002 (!). As I see it Topping and others are not to blame, but victims. And well knowing the way this always works they are double victims, because Cirrus will deny any failure on their side and refuse any kind of compensation that might help those manufacturers.
Thanks for your input
You Conjecture that Topping might be the "Poor Victims" and, maybe even "double victims"..as you say in your post. An Interesting Concept.
"As I see it Topping and others are not to blame, but victims. And well knowing the way this always works they are double victims, because Cirrus will deny any failure on their side and refuse any kind of compensation that might help those manufacturers.
So.... we should stop complaining about our problems with a faulty product many people were sold by Topping, and blame The CS chip manufacturer instead without any proof of this ?.
I'm sure Cirrus Logic would love to respond to this if you have any new 'Information'
I agree that the jury is out until tests are made .
But I cannot feel sorry for a company that has in reality known of the failure of a product it has been selling for some time, and appears to have kept their fingers crossed and hoped no one noticed, and could 'fob' off customers complaints until they went away.
Now that the problem is confirmed and they have no where to turn they suddenly decide to stop Advertising it as a DAC for certain sources via Coaxial
As I have said before, whether Topping or, The Cirrus Chip is to blame or not, we shall hopefully find out.
However Toppings Denial and terrible customer service is appalling. Whatever their excuses ,Topping are in reality leaving customers as "Poor Victims" and, maybe even " double victims"
