Has anyone tried to mount them with a custom build enclosure like a proper Auro 3D/Atmos speaker? I am thinking about taking them out of the ceiling and putting them into a DIY enclosure with a more correct angle behind a perforated/sound transparent movie screen.

That is very interesting, and a good idea in terms of getting more of the listening area into the main cone of dispersion. Might be worth asking Revel support about the enclosure volume size and how much baffle to give the speaker before the wall and ceiling transition.
