Could someone state what the purpose of the tube in the Saga+ is? If I am not mistaken, it is used as a "buffer." Is there a difference between using a tube as a buffer (what does that mean?) vs. in some "traditional" sense?

It means the tube doesn’t amplify the signal hence the unity gain, It also means the tube is working in the cathode follower mode which allows low noise and distortion, for a tubed device anyway, which in turn means there’s no tube sound coloration here, so in other words the tube is kind of pointless in the Saga. A buffer also means it has a low output impedance to avoid issues present in passives. The Kara is good.

Might put buying a preamp on hold for now and just use in-app volume controls to control the volume.

Jason from Schiit stated that the Saga 2 is coming. Want to see how that turns out before buying a preamp (if it's not too long of a wait).
