I know its the question that keeps you awake at night, is the Eversolo 'Master' edition with its fancy dual femto clocks and swish 1642 op-amp really better than the lowly standard version.
Once you strip away the gold bling whats underneath?
There can be only one.
Can you handle the TRUTH?

One cock-up already, 1612 is in the Master edition!
Looking through the specs I can’t see any other differences, RCA and XLR outputs are the same 2.6 and 5.2 respectively, level matching should be easy.
My plan is to use Roon to switch between Eversolo streamers , connecting the same channel to one of my drive speakers.
They have both digital and analogue inputs so I can compare both digital and analogue outputs of the Eversolo’s.
The only issue is that the active speakers here all have. their own internal processing but that will be the same for both units.
I will check the output voltages of both, what haven’t I considered?

The ‘Master’ has entered the building !
There is at least one more change to the standard, the label is orange!

It does look nice in orange, whether it is £441 nicer?

You will be pleased that ‘knob feel’ is unaltered.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say there *may* be a slight measurable improvement. But completely inaudible. Blaming jitter and op amps is the modern equivalent of blaming the dog.

Doggie jitter is much more adorable... sometimes audible... sometimes with a side of slobber... much like many claims of audio bipeds...

The plan is to hook both units up to some speakers using their analogue outputs , ensure the levels are the same, specs for both machines are identical RCA and XLR , then switch between unsighted.
I don’t have two pairs of speakers but if I push them close together , connect the same channel to the speakers I think I should be comparing like for like?

I am wishing that I still had my Benchmark HPA4 here

usefully it has two sets of analogue inputs on XLR

I could connect the analogue outputs of both Eversolo DMPs ‘Master’ and standard.

I think to make this a really valid comparison I need a preamp and this looks ideal

If I get the ‘extender for it as well that gives me more than enough inputs.

Or wait for the Eversolo DMP A-8 which has two analogue ‘ins’ but one on XLR and one on RCA.

Output from the DMP A-8 is slightly less from both RCA and XLR compared to the A-6

I have been comparing this afternoon and frankly I can’t hear any difference whatsoever between the two Eversolo DMP A-6 units standard and ‘master’ , but I realise that I am predisposed to not hear a difference, the Eversolo DMP A-8 should arrive soon, hopefully it will be Roon Ready by the time it arrives.
It has two analogue ins on RCA and XLR which will allow me to not only compare the analogue outputs of the Eversolo’s but the Wiim Pro Plus as well.
Which will hopefully also make a slightly more interesting comparison.
