Just trying to "fit in" here, I checked my purchase history for the last 18 months.
I discovered Gil Goldstein. That's it.
The rest of the purchases were "more of the same old stuff". When I find somebody I really like, I go deep and get more.
Ok, it's not new, I failed, unless a 2006 release date counts as new. I suppose it does to me.
Record review here.
I cheated though, because I discovered him by investigating with whom other known players were working, in this case, a multiple-hit choice featuring Don Alias, Richard Bona, Randy Brecker, and Mike Manieri, who were already known to me (although I'm not real familiar with the Brecker person). It was probably a Richard Bona search that got me to this disk.
I discover "new music" by seeing with which unknown (to me) headliner people I
do know (and like) are willing to invest
their time and energy.
I
don't discover "new music" by seeing what's being pushed out the door this week before being forgotten by next weeks
risciacqua e ripeti .
But that's just me, you're all invited over for free beer (guaranteed none from the Bud/Corona/Coors/Miller store shelves, though).
I'm not a bad guy. I know I'm no fun, though.
If the artists others have posted above don't
wind up working in a gas station in ten/twenty years, maybe I'll
discover them too. Stranger things have happened.
