Linn Klimax Solo 800

Only $45,000!!!
Yet not even basic specs on their product page... let alone measurements.

I can get more information about a $100 amp than this. So customers are meant to simply trust Linn and hand over $45k? ... I don't think so. :D

Of course there is an "article" (advertisement) up on "StereoLux" (Lux sounds like and is a brand of soap);
It is stated there;
We are told that Linn's electronic engineers focused on achieving ultimate 'consistency' and 'accuracy' featuring novel and original Linn technologies which combine to “produce staggeringly low distortion measurements (THD+N, 8Ω 0.0004% 1kHz, 400W), with superb signal-to-noise ratio (98 dB Ref 1W, 20kHz A-wt), and incredible efficiency”.
That A-weighted SNR 'aint so great... for the money.

If it's anything like the Klimax 500... I wouldn't be calling that superb for the money either;

Really... who names an amp c(k)limax? What are people meant to climax over it or something? o_O

It migth actually be well performing for a high end brand, but the price o_O ...... snr at 98dB is a bit low for sota .

At least it’s not horrible like many high end products it’s delivers transparent performance and drives difficult speakers so it actually works ?

I once watched a show called "The Girlfriend Experience" where one h**ker tells another one that the client was like a broken ATM machine and kept popping out cash for nothing in return. These type of products remind me of that client.

I wonder why Linn product names always have a 'K' in them.

Do Stereophile realise they've drawn a sea lion? Or perhaps it's Nessie. :p

Measurements by @John Atkinson for Stereophile:
While it seems to perform great in some areas, this is simply not competitive considering the (extremely) higThis would hit 100dB SINAD at 1kHz/5W/4Ω but it rises all the way to the clipping point after that...:rolleyes:

That’s interesting. I have preferred the sound of tubes even knowing that it is not accurate, although I do use pure class D for my home theater.

I wonder if this gives you transparency for the 5W and lower class and then a bit of excitement or difference to allow for subtle differences when comparing A and B.

FYI, @John Atkinson has asked that ASR members not copy/paste Stereophile graphs in these posts and to just link to the article and describe the measurements in words.

Okay, so we have half of the terrible twosome from past glories. Now, do we have a full tech appraisal of the Naim Statement confection to compare it with to make it whole with Linn/Naim dealers (I think there's a few left which sell both and not just one or t'other)?
