The license is tied to you and the unit. You can transfer the "you" part to the new owner of the unit. In my case, when I log into Dirac, I still see the DLBC license but it says that it was transfered to the email address of the owner that bought my HTP-1.
If I were to sell my AV10 to you I suppose I could do it without selling the license and/or simply not requesting Dirac transfer the license to you. But even if I did, to my knowledge, I will not be able to re-apply that to a C40 if I decided to buy one of those to replace my AV10.
It sucks but it is what it is. Leading edge software cost real money to develop and that means a premium is likely to be commanded when they sell licenses for that software. Especially in a niche, low volume market like these high end AV processors and AVRs.
