If, for some reason, I had to go back to playing LPs, I'd [first] find out who has an ultrasonic cleaning service for LPs within driving distance. I'd get one of the recent Technics direct drive turntables, a Audio-Technica cartridge, probably moving magnet because of easy replacement, and a Parasound JC 3+ phono preamp. I've seen some frequency graphs for the recent run of AT MM cartridges, they've managed to get reasonably close to a flat frequency response, this after years of a signature sound of too much treble. But nothing would prevent me from hearing the IGD. If I had that kind of money, I'd be happier upgrading my guitar.
