...when it comes to STOA tech, The high end of the market isn't geared toward content consumers, but towards creators.
Thanx: Now we are getting somewhere.
It has been a few years since my last PC-build (motherboard/Z790, CPU/13g-i7K, GPU/RX6750XT), planning to stop chasing the latest SOTA specs and developments in the computer world, for the next 5 years.
However, I did a bit of digging and accumulated some relevant SOTA specs:
Fierce competition goes on, yet the debate has not been settled yet.

HDMI2.1 >> 48[42?]Gbps @8K/120Hz[?], supports network (<100MHz), eARC, Dolby, CEC, no legacy (<v2.0)
DisplayPort2.1 >> 80[77?]Gbps @16K/60Hz[?], supports Multi-display, USB-4/C, ThunderBolt, DC-out and legacy
IMO >> HDMI over DisplayPort but only in cases where network and/or ARC pass-thru is required on interface.

USB4 >> 80[40?]Gbps @4K, supports ThunderBolt and legacy
ThunderBolt4[5=TBD?] >> 10GbpsX4 @8K/60Hz, supports USB, PCIe+DP, ext-GPU, daisy-chain, DC@15W, network (10gbE)
Exact specification numbers seem to get sketchy and they "depends" in actual hardware performance/capabilities.
So, I must ask out of ignorance; do these"Content Providers(CP)" stick with HDMI due to their laziness/ignorance/cost?
At a minimum, do such CPs opt for such specific motherboards as the AsusCreatorZ790ProArt and/or DisplayPort hardware connectivity?

@pseudoid

For HDMI vs DisplayPort read this, its way better than me writing an essay.

For USB vs thunderbolt read this, its way better than me writing an essay, or going on an apple rant!

^^ Thank you @DLS79, but my previously quoted summary for the 4 standards was more than what I expected to spend time on.
My 2 questions were more about content creators use-cases and their preferences.

I run 2 DPs from my Radeon/RX6750 GPU, but also have a TB as 4K direct video input to the PCIe channel that runs off the Intel-i7 GPU independent of my Radeon.
It does well for 'content creation', while also scoring well in CineBench CPU/GPU stress testing:

Are you asking about burn in, or general panel life?
More or less both. Panel life would be more interesting.

Tim, I respect you posting your experience but it is a single use case of yours.
The facts are that OLED's are susceptible to burn-in and potential buyers deserve to be aware.
Each and every buyers case is an individual decision. I for one use my 85" Samsung often to display
my music server computers screen, and often fall asleep doing so. Purchasing a OLED for my use would be
simply asking for trouble or not using the set in the manner I desire.
Except for very small differences, todays OLED and QLED are about on equal ground and offer a variety of
strengths and weaknesses. Ya buy your ticket and take your ride.
I have seen so many people writing very similar experiences, and even I have the same experience. I'm using an LG B7 55" (so 7 years old) that I bought used 3-4 years ago that I have used a lot for movies (with subs), Youtube, gaming, regular computing and Blender/photoshop and I have no sign of burn in under normal usage (I can see very slight on burnin test images).
You have to be a bit smart though, like running black theme in Windows (including DarkReader in the browser), autothiding taskbar, use a screensaver and not blasting on full brightness. Except I have been running on full, just because it's nice ;)
So yeah, be a bit smart and you can confidently use an OLED for everyday computing, especially newer panels that are way better and less susceptible to burnin than my old one.

Imagine if Pornhub logo burns into your screen! you are then screwed . . .
:)
Why would I have to imagine this?

We got our first OLED TV maybe a decade ago. We don't use it much anymore, but I never noticed burn in, and I did use it a bit as a monitor. I have an OLED laptop that is maybe 7 years old. I never noticed any burn in, but I don't use it much anymore. My three year old OLED that I use as a monitor, still no burn in noticed. Great for TV. It's in a dark room, and I keep the brightness at about medium for computer usage and low for movies. Phones? I far prefer OLED because they can turn pixels off completely in a dark room. My current laptop is LCD, because it was the smallest 4k I could get (13.3"). It's not as nice for TV viewing as the OLEDs, but I have to pay attention to notice the difference. I do have an 86" Sony LCD with quantum dots, and I don't much care for it. I prefer sitting closer than is comfortable with that screen, and its size limits where it can be.

LOL, every time I mention OLED burn-in I get the, "oh no, it doesn't happen to me.
Simply Google "oled burn in" and click Images at the top. You'll get plenty of examples.
It may not happen to you depending on your usage. But it can happen.
Considering the very high image quality, the super brightness and all the rest of todays mini-led,
Thats where I'll put my money and know it's reasonably safe. "if the damn thing don't blow up" LOL
YMMV

What about "reverse burn-in"?
I see numbers like 700Hours to 2000Hours before the 'organic' parts of these OLEDs do what us organics always end up doing (dying; especially from exposed-skin cancer)... when used as PC monitors.

Burn-in (ahem! "Retention") Prevention: Long and Short of the vocabulary (afaik).
Pixel/Panel shift, clean, refresh, calibrate
Panel protect
Protect Notice
Multi Logo detection
Taskbar/boundary detection
Static screen detection
Pixel Refresh Compensation (@Sleep/@Standby)
Enhanced Realtime compensation
yawn...

NOTE: LG OLED remotes do voice commands like "Turn Off the Screen"

We know burn in is real. It's just not a significant problem for the vast majority of people. If you're the type to leave a screen on most of the time with static images, sure. I don't know people who do that, though. As I said, never had an issue despite many OLEDs. It was the same with CRTs. Never had an issue with burn in with all the monitors and TVs I'd ever owned. Of course I'd seen a burnt in logo at the airport or in some similar 24/7 static use, but it didn't seem like anybody cared otherwise.

Well you know at least one, me.
And have met a number of others via the screen images posted.
Be careful, it could happen to you too. ;)

I was recently in central florida, from orlando to gainseville. We could have hung out!

The results of an image search are not necessarily representative of what happens to the vast majority of people. If anything, it's usually the opposite.

Well then, you are out of luck then, aren't you?
You can either change your TVs frequently, or learn not to care.
They all suffer from burn-in with your use class.
Drop the max. brightness a tad, and they all last a reasonably long time.
Not a big issue, we all change our TVs every now and then, anyways.

Again, of course you have to be a bit smarter and it will be just alright. And bringing up Rtings stress tests ain't fair since it really is extreme stress tests. The second one looks like the same LG B7 I have based on that stand, and that guy must have fallen asleep with Netflix on. It's like asking for burn in.
But there is of course a risk, I'm not denying that, but that risk is greatly exaggerated and mostly based on how OLED was from the start, so kind of the same when people say that "MP3 sucks!!1" just because that 64kbps MP3 they heard back in 1998 sounded bad and they totally forget that there have been "some" advances in the format since then.

Unlike audio, video isn't a solved tech and has changed & improved drastically over the last decades.
So I do tend to upgrade somewhat frequently, plus unlike speakers the monitors are relatively cheap and have gotten cheaper every year. Also my last Sony was damaged by a lightning strike. :(
I'm not a big movie guy and time wise spend a lot more time with music instead of video. So I do tend to be in the dark much more that the light. My current Sammy is great but I got a feeling that do to it's rainbow problem with the screen coating it won't be around long either. LOL

So you keep a large plate glass (TV) in your critical music listening room, and not bothered with possible reflections off it?
